The modern 24-passenger M/V Desafio is a newly renovated river vessel offering a fascinating cruise on the Amazon and Negro rivers. It displays wooden finishing and elegant decoration. The vessel is 109 feet long, fully air-conditioned and offers many of the same amenities found on larger ships. There is a nicely appointed restaurant and bar. Large sundeck with outdoor bar. Explore the Amazon Rainforest both by canoe and on foot in the company of naturalist guides. This is truly one of the most fascinating wildlife destinations in the world. The cruises begin and end in Manaus, Brazil. Small enough for everyone to be on a first-name basis by the end of the first hours, our passengers feel at home in the heart of the Amazon. The cruises depart from Manaus, capital of the State of Amazonas, a city in the jungle that prospered during the rubber boom last century . There is a choice of four days cruises - one visits Jau national park and the other sails up the negro river, both of which include the “Meeting of the Waters”, where the Rio Negro and the Amazon River converge. For many miles the different colored waters don't mix! The cruises also include small boat excursions into the jungle with specialized guides who will explain the local flora and fauna. Piranha fishing and visits to native's communities along the river are also included. Sample itineraries for Desafio 4 day cruise - Amazon ecological cruise 4 day cruise - Jau national park M/V Desafio Ecological Cruise -4 Days Sample Three-Night Itinerary Day 1 - Thursday – Transfer from hotel, or airport, to the pier. At approximately 2:30 pm, board the M/V Desafio. After departure, briefing with details of the itinerary. Navigation to the “Meeting of the Waters”, where the dark waters of the Negro river join the muddy waters of the Solimoes River but do not mix. Continue to an Ecological Reserve. Using motorized canoes, explore the “Igarapes” to look for giant water lilies – Victoria Regia. Dinner on board and M/V Desafio will dock for overnight at the Praia do Tatu (Armadillo beach). Day 2 - Friday – After an early breakfast, a guided jungle trek into the Amazon Rainforest, to see how plants are used for medicinal or for construction purposes. Stop by a river sand beach for swimming, before returning to M/V Desafio. Lunch on board while navigating towards Samauma Island, located in the Anavilhanas, the largest river archipelago in the world. In the afternoon, explore the islands, lakes and Igarapés (flooded forest). Return to the boat for dinner followed by motorboat outing to experience the sounds of the forest at night and star gazing. Overnight. Day 3 - Saturday – The vessel will start navigation early in the morning, leaving the Anavilhanas and will cruise to Santa Maria Village while breakfast is served. Arriving at Santa Maria, visit this typical jungle community, to see the way of life of the Caboclos (natives) and their relationship with the environment. Back to the boat, the cruise continues into the “Furo do Meio” and lunch is served. In the afternoon, piranha fishing trip. After dinner on board, motorboat outing in the surrounding area, to spot alligators. Return for overnight. Day 4 - Sunday – Early wake up call to hear the Dawn Chorus, returning to the boat at 7:30, when breakfast is served.
